Description: The Dustbowl Revival is a California-based roots collective that merges old school bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, swamp blues and the hot swing of the 1930’s to form a spicy roots cocktail. Known for their inspired live sets, and even named Best Live Band in LA by LA Weekly; the Dustbowl Revival boldly brings together many styles of traditional American music.
The Dustbowl Revival: The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice, California-based roots collective that merges old school bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, swamp blues and the hot swing of the 1930’s to form a spicy roots cocktail. Known for their inspired live sets, the Dustbowl Revival boldly brings together many styles of traditional American music. Growing steadily from a small string band playing up and down the west coast (hundreds shows in the last two years), DBR has blossomed into a traveling collective featuring instrumentation that often includes fiddle, mandolin, trombone, clarinet, trumpet, banjo, accordion, tuba, pedal steel, drums, guitars, a bass made from a canoe oar, harmonica and plenty of washboard and kazoo for good luck. 2013 has a new album - Carry Me Home, on the way. Merging their vintage style with a hip, lose-your-troubles-and-start-moving vibe, the record perfectly encompasses the band’s upbeat message. Seeking to travel more widely in 2013, the band will be playing Mountain Song Bluegrass Cruise to The Bahamas (Punch Brothers, David Grisman) as well as venturing to Arizona, Colorado, New York and beyond. “A nine-piece band replete with tuba, washboard, accordion, fiddle, mandolin, trumpet and guitar joyously pumped out early 20th century standards and original tunes that would have sounded utterly at home within the hallowed confines of Preservation Hall in New Orleans’ French Quarter. The seven men…and two women in flapper-inspired dresses, are members of a ragtag outfit called the Dustbowl Revival, strumming, sawing and puffing enthusiastically as smiling listeners on the dance floor swung their partners infectiously.” - LA TIMES “An old-time medicine show featuring the kind of roots music that normally isn’t my cup of twang, except it offered great bands like the Dustbowl Revival, whose Americana swing was so fun I went back to see them again the next day.” - R. Sheffield, ROLLING STONE
The Curly Wolf: The Curly Wolf was born in Southern California where SF Bay Area transplant Grant Benziger found like minded musicians to deliver a fast paced, hell of a good time band. Mixing roots-country, rockabilly, bluegrass and even punk to give a fun and energetic performance that caters to audiences young and old alike. The EP "Live Cursed, Seen Worse" was put out in April 2012 and they have been playing in support of it since. Keeping the crowds moving with a mix of sounds old and new, they give nods to Cash and Hank and bring the energy of rockabilly and cowpunk that makes for an all around memorable night.
