Sweet & Tender Hooligans

Sweet & Tender Hooligans: “Since 1992 Sweet and Tender Hooligans have been performing their tribute to Morrissey and The Smiths to sold-out audiences throughout the U.S., Mexico and the U.K. Fronted by Jose Maldonado “The Mexican Morrissey”, the band covers material from Morrissey’s entire career from the earliest albums by The Smiths to Morrissey’s most recent songs. With their precise re-creation of Morrissey’s live performances, The Hooligans enjoy a very fervent and loyal fan base who treat Maldonado as though he were the real deal showering him with gladiolas and rushing the stage to steal a hug. Like Morrissey, they’ve attracted a significant Latino element and have even translated a few of his songs into Spanish. Morrissey himself paid the band the ultimate compliment in 2004 when he opened his show at The Wiltern by announcing to the crowd, “Hello, we are the Sweet and Tender Hooligans…I am Jose”
